Go to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsDefault Programs and configure default apps associations. In Windows 10 1709, this control panel item is now in Settings app.Let's try to configure Internet Explorer as the default browserChoose Internet ExplorerInternet Explorer is now the default web browser. Export/import the custom default app association with dism.exeNote that you need administrator rights to use dism.exe. It seems the old Default Programs option is still there somewhere in 1709, because Adobe Pro brought me there when it asked if I wanted to set it as the default upon installation.
Today, I’m going to show you a way out, if you ever face a situation, where you cannot or are unable to change the default program extension in Windows 10/8/7. I was helping out a client of mine.
But you can’t get there if you try to through Control Panel like you used to be able to. So Microsoft hasn’t actually removed it, just made it really hard to get to. Anyone know how to still get to it since it’s so much easier to set full defaults for a program with it? The new interface makes you change each item manually if you want it to have all defaults. That’s not making it easier in my opinion.
I have a co-worker who computer runs Windows 10 Pro and Office 2007 Professional and just within the last day appears to have installed a slew of Windows updates including the fall Creators update. Following this update he's now having some severe (to him)functionality issues having to do with the fact that even though Outlook 2007 is set as his default email program that Send To Mail Recipient is broken and also in Picassa send a photo to email no longer works. In the case of Send To Mail Recipient, if Outlook wasn't open, I could see in task manager that Outlook would start but no Outlook window would ever open and if Outlook was already running with the main program window on screen no new email window wouldopen. I saw many people complaining about this problem in various online forums but none of the fixes suggested seemed to work.
(Like one suggestion was to run Fixmapi) But I tried opening the Send To folder and put a link right to Outlook and now when heuses Send To Outlook that shortcut works but Send To Mail Recipient is still broken. In Picassa there is no option or functionality to allow me to add a program to send a picture to like there is with Send To so I gave him a work around of saving pictures to a folder in his default Pictures folder and then attaching them after he createda new email. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to fix this problem and get his computer back to working as it used to? I have had the same type of problem on PC's and so have stopped upgrades to 1709. I did have some limited success with Adobe Reader 11 on a computer running Outlook 2010.
The send to email link in Adobe did nothing (I did not check task manager).I removed the new 'Mail' program that came with Windows 10 ( get-appxpackage.microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps. remove-appxpackage ) then ran the 'Repair Installation'program on Office 10. Now Adobe's Send to Email works as it should. However, I still have another 3rd party app, Win2PDF, that will not send to email.
It would normally convert anything you print to it into a PDF and then automatically opena new email inserting the PDF as an attachment. It converts but nothing happens during the send phase. I will probably 1) Reinstall Win2PDF since the uninstall of 'Mail'. 2) Use a registry cleaner, 3) Check with Win2PDF support. My guess is there are a lot of 3rd party programs that cannot access the default email client. Sometimes, some programs and system file will corrupt during upgrade, so we need to reinstall problematic program when it occurred issue. Then, try the method:Make a shortcut of OutlookOpen the Run window, press WIN+RType shell:sendto into the run box. That opens the sendto folder.Drag your shortcut from the desktop into the sendto folder.
Windows 10 Default Programs Not Opening
Close the folder.Reboot computer and test again.Good luckPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they help.If you have feedback for TechNet Subscriber Support, contact. Teemo:I'm a little confused by your post since if you reread what I wrote I already did exactly what you outline and put a shortcut in the send to folder directly to Outlook bypassing the 'Send To Mail Recipient'.But I tried Richard Haydn suggested i.e. Uninstall the Microsoft Mail app and then repair the Microsoft Office installation which appears to have worked.I'm sorry to have to say this but your response highlights the reason people who come here are often exasperated with the MSFT people responses. It's as if all you did was read my messages title 'Windows 10 updates have broken the default mail program?' And offer suggestions based on that without reading the body of my message to see more details of the problem and what I've already tried.
